Catford Broadway
Formerly Springfield Crescent, Catford Broadway has long been a focal point for shopping. Although none of the original shops remain, residents still remember the Broadway’s invaluable retail stops which they visited regularly including Pecry’s for linen and bedding, Kay’s Shoes and Lyon’s Tea House for some light refreshment.

Springfield Crescent was the original name of Catford Broadway, giving us a clue of the wet swampy nature of this part of Lewisham. Rushey Green – where they grew rushes that were milled at the many mills along the banks of the river. The green squares along the side of Lewisham Road are also evidence of the hidden rivers and the marshy land.
